RBC Capital Markets is the investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada, the country's largest bank. It's a big player in North America and has a solid London business. It's one of the more respected in-between banks, and probably the strongest Canadian bank outside Canada.
Where RBC is strong
- Energy, mining and infrastructure, partly because of Canada's economy.
- Leveraged finance and debt, which a big lender naturally does well.
- North American M&A, where it's a regular on mid-sized and large deals.
That makes for a specific "why RBC?". If you've followed a mining or energy deal, or you're interested in the financing side, say so.
Applying
RBC recruits summer analysts and graduates in London and across North America. US and Canadian recruiting starts earlier than UK, often more than a year ahead of the internship. If you're at a US or Canadian university, check timings at the start of the academic year.
On the CV: the usual bank structure, with your strongest deal or modelling bullet near the top. If you've done anything in energy or natural resources, including a relevant degree, make it visible.
