How to get into BMO Capital Markets

BMO Capital Markets is the investment bank of Bank of Montreal, known for metals and mining. Who it hires, where, and what your CV needs.

BMO Capital Markets is the investment bank of Bank of Montreal. Most of its banking business is in Canada and the US, and it has a strong name in metals and mining, where it's advised on a lot of the industry's deals.

Is it a realistic application from the UK?

BMO's London office is smaller than RBC's and focused on certain sectors. Most undergraduate hiring is in Toronto, New York and Chicago. If you're at a UK university and can work in Canada or the US, it's worth an application. If not, it's probably not a priority.

If you do apply

  • Lead with anything related to natural resources: a geology or engineering degree, a mining-sector internship, a stock pitch on a miner. That's a CV BMO will read carefully.
  • Follow the North American recruiting timeline, which runs early.
  • Use a North American resume format if you're applying to Canada or the US: GPA if strong, no photo, no date of birth.
