Monitor Deloitte is Deloitte's strategy consulting practice. It came from Monitor Group, the strategy firm co-founded by Harvard's Michael Porter, which Deloitte bought in 2013. It's one of the three Big 4 strategy arms, alongside Strategy& and EY-Parthenon.
Make sure you're applying to the right thing
This is the most common mistake I see with Monitor Deloitte. Deloitte runs a lot of graduate programmes, and the strategy one can be listed alongside dozens of others. If you want strategy work, apply to Monitor Deloitte specifically, not to Deloitte's general consulting programme, and make sure your application says why strategy.
What I remember about Deloitte's spring week
I did a spring week at Deloitte. It was virtual, and we did lots of small tasks designed to show what each service line does. That's useful if you don't know Deloitte well yet, and a good place to find out whether you want strategy or something else.
What the CV should show
- Leadership, problem-solving and drive, as at any strategy firm.
- A reason for strategy. A consulting society project, a strategy internship, a business you started.
- Breadth. Monitor Deloitte works with the rest of Deloitte on big transformation projects, so evidence that you can work across very different teams is useful.
