How to get into FT Partners

FT Partners only advises fintech companies. Who it hires, including in London, and what your CV needs to show.

FT Partners (Financial Technology Partners) was founded in San Francisco in 2001 by Steve McLaughlin, previously at Goldman Sachs, and it only advises fintech companies: payments, banking software, insurance tech, crypto infrastructure and so on. It's well known for detailed industry research reports that get passed around the fintech world.

Who should apply

Only people who genuinely love fintech. You'd need to understand how a payments company makes money, or why a neobank's valuation went up or down, and talk about it with conviction. It has offices beyond San Francisco, including London.

On the CV

  • Show you know the sector. A fintech internship, a society pitch on a payments company, a blog where you write about fintech deals.
  • Build something, if you can. A simple app that uses a payments API, or an analysis of fintech funding rounds, says more than "interested in fintech".
  • Technical banking skills, as everywhere.
