How to get into LionTree

LionTree is a New York boutique focused on media, telecoms and technology. Who it hires, including in London, and what your CV should show.

LionTree was founded in 2012 by Aryeh Bourkoff, a former UBS banker, and focuses on media, telecoms, entertainment and technology. It's advised on some very large media deals and is one of the most visible of the newer boutiques. It has a London office as well as New York.

Who should apply

Only people who genuinely care about media and tech. Every deal you'd work on would be in those sectors. LionTree also runs events and content around the industry, and it seems to like people who follow it closely [my impression].

What the CV needs

  • Evidence you know the industry. A media internship, a student newspaper or radio role you actually ran, a stock pitch on a streaming or telecoms company, a sharp view on a recent deal.
  • Technical skills, as at any boutique.
  • Specific interests. This is a firm where "film" isn't enough, but "programmed the student cinema's 30-film season" might be.
