M. Klein & Co. is the New York advisory firm of Michael Klein, who ran a large part of Citi's investment bank before leaving in 2008. It's small and advises on very large, often international transactions. Klein is also known for sponsoring SPACs (blank-cheque companies) under the Churchill Capital name.
Is it realistic?
For most undergraduates, no, at least not straight away. The firm is small and doesn't seem to run a public graduate programme. It's a firm people move to after years at a big bank.
What you can do
- Aim first for a bulge bracket or elite boutique in New York, where you'll learn the large-deal work this firm does.
- If you want to understand its world, read about SPACs: how they work, why they boomed in 2020 and 2021, and why many struggled afterwards. It's a genuinely good interview topic at any bank.
