The short version
Stop planning around deadlines. Plan around opening dates. Most banks review applications as they come in, so the bulk of the places go to people who applied in the first week or two. By the official deadline, there's often nothing left, and some programmes close early.
Four things catch students out every year:
- Elite boutiques open in August and close within about six weeks. For summer 2027, Moelis and Perella Weinberg had already closed by early October.
- Bank summer internships open from mid-August and mostly close between October and December. In practice, September is when to apply.
- Spring weeks come in two waves: one opening from late August to early October, another from late October to January.
- MBB internships in London run later than you'd think. BCG's London internship window is 1 to 24 January 2027, and Bain's opens in November. October is the full-time round, not the internship one.
Dates below were last checked on 11 October 2026. They move every year, so always confirm on the firm's own site before you rely on one.
How sure we are of each date
Each row says where the date comes from. "Firm site" means it's published on the firm's own careers page. "Tracker" means a student application tracker shows it for this cycle, but we haven't seen it on the firm's site yet. "Expected" means it isn't published, and the date is estimated from last year.

What to do month by month
If you're in your penultimate year
By August, have your CV finished and checked. Elite boutiques and the first bank programmes open in mid-August, and you won't have time to rewrite it once they do.
In September, apply to the banks. This is the month that matters most. Do the online tests and video interviews as soon as you're invited.
In October and November, finish the banks before they close, and start on the tier-2 consultancies, which open from September and close in early January.
In December and January, it's consulting. Bain's internship should open in November, and BCG's window is three weeks in January. McKinsey, Oliver Wyman, L.E.K. and OC&C all close in early to mid January.
If you're in your first year
Watch for spring weeks from late August. The first wave (J.P. Morgan, UBS, Rothschild, Evercore, Jefferies) opens before most first-years have arrived at university, and closes within about a month. The second wave (Citi, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Lazard, Barclays) opens from late October into January.
Apply to lots of them. My three spring weeks were in completely different fields, and it was the quickest way to work out what I wanted. You'll also need the interview practice before the applications that matter more.
Get your CV ready before the window opens
The first week a programme is open is when your CV gets read most generously, and it's the week you have least time to fix it. Get it reviewed in August, not the night before you apply.
