How to get into Lincoln International

Lincoln International advises private equity funds on mid-market deals. How undergraduates get in, in London and the US, and what your CV needs.

Lincoln International was founded in Chicago in 1996 and advises mainly on mid-market M&A, a lot of it for private equity funds buying and selling companies. It also has a big valuations business. It has offices across Europe, including London.

What working with private equity clients means

If most of your clients are private equity funds, deals move fast and the buyers are sophisticated. As an analyst you'd see a lot of sell-side processes: preparing a company for sale, building the information memorandum, managing a list of buyers. That's why Lincoln is a common step towards private equity later.

On the CV

  • Any experience with a private equity fund or a company that was bought or sold: say what you did on the deal and its size.
  • Modelling you can defend.
  • Evidence you can manage a process with many moving parts: an event you organised with lots of suppliers, a society you ran with a committee of 15.
